ANYONE CAN COOK

My name is John Temple, and I’m living proof that anyone can cook. I am not a trained chef and have no professional culinary training. In fact the first cooking classes that I ever attended were the ones that I presented in the Kitchen & Company stores last Fall. I grew up with a passion for cooking that has only grown over the years. I believe that cooking should be fun and easy, and that simpler is often better. You don’t have to have perfect knife skills or shop for exotic ingredients in order to present your family and friends with great food that will make everyone smile.

Class 1: “Appetizers & Hors d’oeuvres”

One of our most popular classes from last season, I’ll be back in the kitchen with a whole new line-up of tasty treats to start off a great meal or serve at your next cocktail party. There will be no less than ten different offerings (I’m having so much fun with the menu that I can’t decide!) and you will learn to make everything from a simple but lovely Goat Cheese and Blueberry Crustini to fresh Guacamole to a rich Brie and Crab Fondue. As always, bring your appetites!

Class Fee: $20 per person

Class 2: “Pulling Off the Perfect Brunch”

Brunch can be one of the most challenging meals of all to pull off. But, with the right balance of menu choice and timing, you can make your brunch a success without wearing yourself to a frazzle. We will be putting together diverse and delicious menu including a hearty Ham and Zucchini Brunch Strata, Breakfast Empanadas, Caramel Banana Bread, Raspberry Scones, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg! And, if I do my job right, you will be treated to a buffet style “brunch” at about 7:45pm. Definitely come hungry and leave happy.

Class 3: “Hot Soups for a Cool Fall Night”

Even in the warmer months, I love to eat hot soups at both lunch and dinner. And making healthy (not a word often associated with my style of cooking) and delicious homemade soups is easy and quick. I will share three of my favorite soup recipes, each of them done in 30 minutes or less. We’ll start with a Creamy Tomato Soup that doesn’t have a drop of cream in it, move on to a rich and satisfying Cauliflower Cheddar Bisque and finally we’ll turn the heat way up for an awesome Thai Coconut Chicken Soup. And, no soup class of mine would be complete without my crowd-pleasing Savory Chicken Soup thrown in for good measure.

Class 4: “Just Desserts”

I have to admit that I am not a big dessert person. I usually fill up so much on the meal that I simply don’t save room. But when guests are coming, I have to be prepared with something special, and I have a few favorites that are big hits every time. We’ll be making a rich and decadent Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake, an even richer and more decadent Tiramisu and a Jamaican Rum Cake that you'll want to make every chance you get. And there just might be enough time to pull off a fourth offering. I’ll let it be a surprise!

Chef Terri is an accomplished home cook and a graduate of the Culinary Business Academy. Her passion for good food has been fueled by nearly eight years living abroad in Germany, and the many travels that exposed her to the cuisines of the world. Chef Terri specializes in healthy, good-for-you food that also tastes great! She is a member of the United States Personal Chef Association and is trained in safe food handling and preparation.

CLASS 1: “Healthy Grill”

Whether the weather has you grilling indoors or out, here are two great menus that are both delicious and healthy. Chef Terri will show you how to make a wonderful Grilled Pepper and Lentil Salad and then follow it with an equally yummy Crab and Grilled Corn Salad.

CLASS 2: “Faster-than-Takeout Healthy Pizza Suppers”

Bel Air MD Store - Wednesday September 21, 6:00pm – 8:00pm


Sure, Domino’s promises to deliver mediocre pizza in 30 minutes or less, but Chef Terri will show you how to create healthy and delicious pizza at home in less time using fresh ingredients. From a spicy and sensational BBQ Chicken Pizza, to a delectable Ricotta, Prosciutto and Fig Pizza and finally a healthy and hearty Turkey Sausage and Roasted Red Pepper Pizza, Terri will have your taste buds tempted all evening.

CLASS 3:“Healthy Mexican Flavors”

Bel Air MD Store - Wednesday October 5, 6:00pm – 8:00pm


Chef Terri takes you South of the Border for two bold and beautiful menus that will have you saying, “muy delicioso!” She’ll start out with Ancho Pork Medallions paired with Chipotle Mashed Sweet Potatoes and if that’s not enough, follow with a pairing of Mahi Tacos and Spicy Black Beans.

Class 4: “Healthy Italian Flavors”

Bel Air MD Store - Wednesday October 19, 6:00pm – 8:00pm


Non c'è niente di meglio di questo! It truly doesn’t get any better than this! Chef Terri invokes the flavors of the Italian Countryside to bring you two wonderful and healthy meal options. Start out with Turkey Sausage Ragu served over Parmesan Polenta Squares and save room for Chicken with Lemon-Leek Linguine.

Class 5: “Healthy Whole Grains”

Bel Air MD Store - Wednesday November 2, 6:00pm – 8:00pm


The health benefits of whole grains are not news to most people, but the fact that you can incorporate whole grains into a fabulous meal may be. Chef Terri presents you with two wonderful and healthy options. Provence-style Chickpea and Vegetables over Quinoa and a super yummy Barley, Butternut Squash and Mushroom Risotto.
